June 11, 2009

The dust is just beginning to settle after a terrific 35th Reunion Celebration. The [Notable] Class of 1974 “obliterated” previous Cornell attendance and giving records and generally was the talk of the Hill during a glorious sun-drenched weekend. Over 270 classmates with 150 family and friends enjoyed Breakfast with the Prez (David Skorton), visited old haunts in Collegetown, attended lectures, danced up a storm in the Tents, took home trophies in golf, tennis and the Reunion Run, and some even decided an Ithaca sunrise was worth staying up for.

For those who can remember prior reunions, the feeling was that this weekend was notable because of the energy and excitement with which classmates connected to each other and the University. I would have to agree—we may be getting a bit older, but we are definitely getting better.

One of our classmates, Bob Oelschalger, sent me a note after Reunion saying, in respect to our Alma Mater’s place in the world of higher education, "I saw that Cornell is keeping pace. The university has established more endowed scholarships in the last 10 years than it did in the first 25 after we graduated and christened first class new facilities; the new life sciences quad and the new dorms on both West and North Campus are breathtaking." He then went onto say that “there is so much more to be done” and asked what he could do to encourage classmates to “join more than 800 colleagues who have already sent their personal 'stimulus package' to Cornell this reunion year to strengthen their university, to prime and grow the economy, and to advance the global knowledge base.” Bob, I think you have done it—thanks.

If you haven’t done so already, please take a moment to give back to the University that has given us so much. Make a gift now, or learn more about giving on our web page.

Best regards,

Reunion Schedule

All Reunion attendees received a commemorative Class of 1974 Program, including a list of the 270 attendees. Cornell University had hundreds of events campus-wide, for all age groups and interests: see the impressive University Schedule. Specific Class of 1974 information is included in our Class of 1974 Reunion Brochure. In order to streamline planning, Cornell also introduced a "personal itinerary" feature that let alumni plan and print personal schedules.

Class Membership and

Class Giving

Class membership supports class activities and the Cornell Alumni Magazine, although class dues are not required for Reunion. You can pay your class dues online, and even make a multi-year commit-ment. During our 35th Reunion, we want to emphasize the many ways you can give back to Cornell.
